DC Comics has given a press release that announces the production of a new documentary focusing on their villainous characters. The project is entitled Necessary Evil: Villains of DC Comics.

Geoff Johns, the Chief Creative Officer for DC Comics was quoted in the press release saying this:

“It’s time we deconstruct these complex and sinister antagonists and celebrate the role they play as the engine and energy of some of the greatest storytelling in comics. 2013 is the Year of the Villain at DC Comics.”

Necessary Evil: Villains of DC Comics

Christopher Lee

Necessary Evil: Villains of DC Comics will be narrated by none other than Christopher Lee, a truly legendary actor who is no stranger to playing the role of the villain. He has played Dracula, Saruman, Francisco Scaramanga in The Man with the Golden Gun, Fu Manchu, and a host of many other roles across his over sixty-year career.

The project will begin production on March 30, coinciding with the WonderCon convention in Anaheim. Cosplayers that attend any of the conventions where the documentary will be filmed, including WonderCon and this years San Diego Comic Con as well as others that have yet to be announced, have the opportunity to be featured in the documentary itself.

Necessary Evil: Villains of DC Comics will be produced by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, so it is very likely that the documentary will be distributed to DVD.

I’m very pleased to read this news. DC has some of the best villains on the planet, and I hope they focus on all the DC villains, not just the best from Batman’s rogues gallery.
