Honestly, if you are a fan of classic horror movies, there is nothing better going that Scream Factory. Well, they are now teaming up with Anchor Bay Entertainment for the ultimate of all horror film releases. In September, Scream Factory will release every Halloween movie made in one Halloween box set.
This may not seem like a big deal, since everything seems to have complete box sets, from James Bond and Planet of the Apes to A Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th. However, when the Friday the 13th box set hit last year, that was a really big deal because it was the first time for that franchise. The movies were owned by two different studios and it took deal making to get the rights to release them as a complete set.
Halloween was even tougher. There was no less than three distributors who held the rights to the different movies in the series. One of those was a company that is no longer even in business. It took a lot of work, but all the rights have been secured and every movie will be in this set – including Rob Zombie’s two efforts.
Want to know what else you are getting? The never before released (outside of an old VHS tape) producer’s cut of Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers. Also included in the rare TV version of the original Halloween. There are 10 movies in the series and the Blu-ray version of the Halloween box set will include 15 discs. Think about that. The unrated versions of Rob Zombie’s movies will also be included, which is good since the second one is actually pretty good in that format.
The release date for the Halloween box set is Sept. 23. There will be the 10-disc regular set for $129.99 and the 15-disc deluxe edition for $169.99. Spend the extra $40 and get the big one that has the really rare stuff in it. There is also a 40-page book by Fangoria Magazine writer Michael Gingold.
