There is another Stephen King project in the works to add to the already pending Under the Dome and 11/22/63 TV shows, and movie versions of Carrie, Gramma, The Ten O’Clock People, Cujo and Joyland – which isn’t even out yet. The new option is for his recent 2006 novel Cell.
Originally, Eli Roth was supposed to direct the movie but he is out and Tod Williams (Paranormal Activity 2) will direct the movie now. There is also a star for Cell in John Cusack as the main protagonist. This is positive news because of his performance in 1408, one of the better recent King adaptations.
Shooting for Cell is supposed to start this fall.
When a powerful signal is broadcast across mobile networks worldwide, cell phone users’ minds are instantly and dangerously re-programmed. Heading north through New England in search of his wife and son, Clay Riddell (Cusack) is joined by a group of survivors hoping to fend off the bloodthirsty and hyper-connected “phoners.”
