I discovered the original Toxic Avenger when I was a little kid and snuck out of my bedroom late at night to watch a blurry version of Showtime back when you could actually do that. I had no idea what Troma was at the time, but I was absolutely enthralled with it.

For those who don’t know the story, The Toxic Avenger is about a 98-pound weakling who works in a gym cleaning floors. When a hot girl flashes him her boobs and asks him to make out with her in the broom closet, he gets excited and races in there. However, after a makeout session, the door opens and he is kissing a pig (literally). Humiliated, he runs away, jumps out a second story window, and ends up in a truck of toxic waste. He comes out as a hulking, toxic mutant and starts to become a new crime fighter – in New Jersey.

Lloyd Kaufman sold out by giving the movie to a studio to make, and Steve Pink (Hot Tub Time Machine) will direct it. Now, to spoil your fantasies, Arnold won’t play Toxie. He will play a former Black Ops soldier called The Exterminator who trains Toxie.

But, come on, it was nice to think of Arnold Schwarzenegger as Toxie for a minute wasn’t it? The Toxic Avenger will be introduced at Cannes and filming will start this fall.
