Big Hero 6 to be Marvel Movies First Disney Animated Effort

Big Hero 6

While Marvel Movies have dominated the box office with their live action efforts, they have never really figured out the animated movie genre like DC Comics have. Now, Marvel animated cartoons have been magnificent, with Spectacular Spider-Man and Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes being two of the best superhero cartoons ever made, but when it comes to animated movies, they don’t hold a torch to DC Comics. With Big 6 Hero, Marvel and Disney hope to reverse that trend.

Big 6 Hero will hit theaters on November 7, 2014 as a theatrical animated movie, something that DC Comics has not even attempted to date. If this works out well, and with Marvel and Disney working together there is no reason to think it won’t, this could be a game-changer for animated superhero movies.

The movie is about a robotics prodigy named Hiro Hamada who ends up in the middle of a plot to destroy the city of San Fransokyo. He then teams up with his faithful robot Baymax and a reluctant team of first-time superheroes to save the city. The movie is based on a comic book that first launched in 1998.

Big Hero 6 sounds pretty cool to be for an animated movie, and hopefully it will help Marvel move more into being able to create movies like this – ones about lesser known heroes that would be too expensive to turn into live action movies. Hell, I think I would rather see The Inhumans as an animated movie than as a live action one.

Check out the test clip below from Big Hero 6 to see how the design of San Fransokyo looks, and its clear Pixar is probably a big influence. What do you think?
