One thing I absolutely love about Marvel movies is that they hire directors with unique styles and visions and let them make the movies their own way. Kenneth Branagh was a great example when he brought his Shakespearian sensibilities to Thor. Joss Whedon infused The Avengers with his brand of geek awareness and what resulted was brilliant. Shane Black brought his flavor to Iron Man 3 and created something a hell of a lot better than just a typical superhero movie. I’m praying that holds true with Edgar Wright, despite word that Marvel is giving the Ant-Man script rewrites.
Now, the Ant-Man script rewrites are supposedly about taking the original Edgar Wright penned script and making sure it falls in line with the rest of the Marvel movies. He originally wrote his script back in the beginning, and since then Thor, Captain America and The Avengers have happened. For the entire universe to tie together, there needs to be adjustments. I assume that is all they are doing and will let his humor and brilliance when it comes to geek culture still shine through.
You don’t hire someone as perfect as Edgar Wright and then do Ant-Man script rewrites than eliminates Wright’s own brilliance. According to Kevin Feige, Wright’s fans have nothing to worry about because the script “is great” and “is very Edgar.” Feige said they will finish the rewrites this year and then look into the casting.
