Marvel Movies Regains 4 Characters: Could Marvel Knights be in the Works?

Last year, it looked like Marvel was about to get Daredevil back from Fox when dealings fell through to trade them more time with the property for Galactus and Silver Surfer. When Fox refused, Marvel was supposed to get Daredevil back. Well, they did get the property back and in a recent interview, Kevin Feige mentioned that was not all that has come back home to Marvel. Marvel Studios also regained the rights to The Punisher, Blade and Ghost Rider.

Feige said that, although they have these properties back, that does not mean they plan on making them into movies right now.

“Whenever a character comes back to us, it’s usually because the other studios don’t want to make the movies anymore – and that usually means the [previous] movies may not have been particularly well received. They all have potential, but we’re not going to say, ‘We got it back – make it!'”

That makes sense, but honestly, it doesn’t mean that there is not life in the properties. Look, Blade was awesome and Blade II is one of the best comic book movies out there, period. The Punisher did not find its success at the box office, but Thomas Jane was great in the role and Punisher: War Zone was just about a perfect Punisher story. Combine those into one movie, and you have awesomeness. The Daredevil director’s cut was great and the recently hinted at Joe Carnahan version sounded amazing. Ghost Rider had Nic Cage, so what chance did it really have?

Now, if you want my opinion, these four characters would be the perfect place for Marvel to start a new Marvel Knights film division. For those unaware, Marvel Knights was some of the more adult oriented titles and the movies based on them would need to be harder than the current ones, and marketed completely different. I still think, if made as lower budgeted action movies, they could all be successful.

Add in Luke Cage and Iron Fist as Heroes for Hire and The Black Panther, and you have six titles that would fit perfectly in the Marvel Knights banner.

Unfortunately, I don’t see Disney going for a Marvel Knights label  but at least they have the titles back at Marvel Studios.
