Luc Besson has been out of the spotlight for far too long. He has a new movie coming out this September called Malavita and then plans to start working on a new movie called Lucy, starring Scarlett Johansson. While seeing Besson directing Robert De Niro, Michelle Pheiffer and Tommy Lee Jones is exciting, I am a bit more excited about Scarlett Johansson’s Lucy.
Look, Besson knows how to make movies with kick-ass female protagonists. From La Femme Nikita and Leon: The Professional shows two amazing female characters that Besson created that remain the top of the food chain when it comes to chicks who kick major ass.
That makes the plot-line for Lucy so cool, and possibly a great option for Johansson. The movie seems almost like a sci-fi superhero movie.
Lucy centers on a woman forced to become a drug mule. But the drug instead goes into her system, transforming her into an ass-kicking machine. She can absorb knowledge instantaneously, is able to move objects with her mind and can’t feel pain and other discomforts.
Scarlett Johansson’s Lucy sounds like a superhero movie to me. Johansson has been pretty brilliant in the Marvel Comics movies as The Black Widow, and her scene at the start of The Avengers was just about perfect. Seeing her kicking more ass in a Luc Besson movie is just too damn great to pass up.
