Brian Michael Bendis’ Torso Movie Adaptation Back On

Brian Michael Bendis is one of Marvel’s most successful writers, creating titles like Ultimate Spider-Man and writing giant event series like House of M, Secret Invasion and Siege. However, before he worked for Marvel he worked with Image and wrote a limited series in 1998 called Torso. After a few years in development, it looks like a Torso movie adaptation is finally coming.

The story follows Elliot Ness after the capture of Al Capone as he moves on to track serial killers in Cleveland. The story here is about the “Torso Murderer,” an active serial killer from 1934 to 1938.

Way back in 2006, David Fincher wanted to turn the story into a movie, but instead moved on to Zodiac and eventually Paramount cancelled the picture and the rights reverted to Bendis.

Now, the Torso movie adaptation is back on again with David Lowery set to write and direct. Lowery wrote and directed Ain’t The Bodies Saints and was the editor of Upstream Color. It is also going to be a low budget indie styled movie produced by Circle of Confusion (The Walking Dead).

They are starting from scratch, so any release date is still to be determined.

Cleveland: 1935. Eliot Ness, fresh from his legendary Chicago triumph over Al Capone and associates, set his sights on Cleveland and went on a crusade that matched, and sometimes even surpassed, his past accomplishments. Dismembered body parts have started washing up in a concentrated area of Lake Erie Sound. Their headless torsos have left no clues to their identity or the reason for death. Elliot Ness and his colorful gang of “The Unknowns” chased this killer through the underbelly of Cleveland for years. As far as the public was concerned he was never captured. But what really happened is even more shocking.
