Bill Murray Possibly Shooting Cameo for New ‘Ghostbusters’

Bill Murray Ghostbusters

Fans of the Ghostbusters series have been demanding the franchise be revived for years and next summer they will finally get their wish.  They appear to have gotten more good news as it now also appears that Bill Murray will reportedly be making a cameo appearance in the series reboot.

Murray was spotted earlier this week entering the film set, presumably to film a small role.  It hasn’t been outright stated that Murray will reprise his role of Dr. Peter Venkman but if he is making an appearance in the film, it wouldn’t make much sense for him to play anyone else.

This news will likely come as a pleasant surprise for fans of the franchise since Murray has been notoriously resistant to getting involved with a new Ghostbusters film due to the less than warm reception of Ghostbusters 2.  At one point, Murray had even said in an interview with David Latterman “I’d do it only if my character was killed off in the first reel.”  Unsurprisingly, that lack of enthusiasm has been partially responsible for holding the project back for the last two decades, so it’s nice to see that he’s apparently warmed up to the series again.  Then again, maybe Murray has gotten his wish to be killed off in the first reel as a way of passing the torch to the new cast (which would be similar to the cameo appearances of Johnny Depp and Peter DeLuise in 21 Jump Street).

The Ghostbusters reboot is being directed by Paul Feig and stars Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones and Chris Hemsworth.  The film is slated to be released July 15, 2016.
