Summit Entertainment has been developing a Highlander reboot on and off since 2008. However, after a long period of inactivity with the project, things finally appear to be headed in a positive as they have now cast Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy) has the beloved Highlander series villain The Kurgan.
I can see why Bautista was cast for this role since his success in playing Drax has made him an ideal casting choice for barbarian roles like The Kurgan. While I’m sure he’ll do fine, I don’t see him living up to the performance Clancy Brown gave in the original Highlander. Like many of the other villain roles he’s played over the years, Brown made The Kurgan memorable because he brought a sinister quality to the character. I just don’t see that happening with Bautista.
Of course, I may be getting ahead of myself since Summit still has an uphill battle getting the Highlander reboot into theaters. As I’ve said before, this film has been in development for the better part of a decade and in that time they’ve hired and lost two directors and as of this article still have not found an actor to play the title character Connor MacLeod since Ryan Reynolds left the project a couple of years ago.
Do you think Dave Bautista should play The Kurgan? Do you think the Highlander reboot will make it back to theaters? Who do want to play Connor Macleod? Give us your thoughts in the comment section below.
