The Gotham TV show just keeps getting better and better. There were two different news briefs this week about the upcoming Batman prequel television series, the first involving The Joker and the second involving two characters added to the mix. Let’s start off with The Joker.
Now, I predicted a while back that Gotham wouldn’t show the origin of The Joker, because part of his mystique is not knowing who he is or where he came from (outside of Tim Burton’s movie). However, I thought it would be pretty great to have a number of different people who could be The Joker eventually. It sounds like my idea was right on.
According to Latino Review, there is a plan by the producers to have a campaign there multiple possible Jokers show up on the Gotham TV series. According to the site, this could be a giant running Easter egg, with guys with giant grins, card sharks, clowns and more that could remind people that The Joker will arrive in Gotham City someday. That sounds really cool as long as they don’t overdo it.
Next up is two more characters that will show up in the first season. Of course, we already have Catwoman, Penguin, Riddler and Poison Ivy coming. Danny Cannon said Mr. Freeze will be coming as well. Now, it is important to understand that these characters are not who we know them as, but as who they were BEFORE they became Batman villains. That makes the two new names that IGN revealed make a ton of sense.
They are Harvey Dent and Hugo Strange. Of course, Dent becomes Two-Face, but before he becomes the villain, he is the District Attorney of Gotham City and a true hero. That means his inclusion makes a ton of sense. The same can be said for Hugo Strange, who was a psychiatrist for the criminally insane at Arkham Asylum.
That last bit is even more exciting since it means we get to see how Arkham Asylum was built and developed to become what Batman fans know it as.
