Matthew Vaughn Joining the Secret Service

The Secret Service

Matthew Vaughn is one of the best young filmmakers working in Hollywood today.

His last movie was the fantastic X-Men prequel X-Men: First Class, and before that he had a number of great movies including adaptations of Mark Millar’s Kick-Ass and  Neil Gaiman’s Stardust. He has finally chosen his next project and will re-team with Millar to adapt the author’s comic book Secret Service.

The Mark Millar penned comic tells the story of a veteran secret agent and his young protege who stumble upon a connection between the “kidnapping of sci-fi stars, the murder of an entire town and a dark secret from Mount Everest.”

When they learn what is behind the events, a conspiracy unravels and many prominent figures seem to be involved.

It sounds more like Red and less like Kick-Ass, which is good because it gives Matthew Vaughn a chance to flex his creative juices once again.

Vaughn was lobbying for Star Wars: Episode VII, but when that went to J.J. Abrams, Vaughn quickly went back to his friend Millar and the project they have been discussing for a couple of years now.

Matthew Vaughn will start shooting Secret Service in August based on a script by his partner Jane Goldman. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters in November 2014.
