Anticipation is gearing up for the third installment of the Iron Man franchise, which will be debuting in just under a month from this weekend. There are some very high hopes set up for Iron Man 3. This will be the first Marvel movie since last summer’s mega-hit, The Avengers, and the first installment in Marvel’s “Phase 2” plan, which will eventually lead up to The Avengers 2, which will be written and directed by Joss Whedon who directed the first Avengers film.
The third Iron Man film will be directed by Shane Black, the writer of the first Lethal Weapon film and the writer/director of Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang. We’ve already seen some very intriguing trailers for the film, but the most intriguing thing yet may be Joss Whedon’s reaction to the film. Since he is the “Tom Hagen” – as he calls his role – of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he has to make sure all the dots line up for the next films leading up to the second Avengers movie. In an interview, Kevin Feige actually said that after seeing Iron Man 3’s climax, Whedon said this:
“Now what am I supposed to do now? What am I going to do in Avengers 2?”
It sounds like Whedon was actually blown away by the ending to the film, and even feels intimidated. If this is the case, then it looks like we have something very special to look forward to with Iron Man 3; and knowing Whedon, he’ll have to whip up something even better to top it.
