According to Marvel President Kevin Feige in a recent interview with Empire magazine, the Thanos actor for the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been cast. However, in the interview, Feige also said that they are not sure they want to announce his name yet.
Thanos will appear in some form in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie this summer, and since that movie is already preparing for release in a few months, the actor likely will just be a voice actor, although there are hopes that the actor motion captured the villain and they don’t just use CGI. The fact that they have not announced his name might mean one of two things.
First, maybe they want to see how fans react to the character without knowing the actor behind it. Second, there might be a chance that they have not inked the Thanos actor to a long term deal. There is a lot of speculation that the third Avengers movie will deal with Thanos as the big super villain, so setting that up will require a lot of work. Plus, with the secrecy of Marvel, there is no telling if Thanos will be anything more than a credit sequence scene again like he was in The Avengers.
Kevin Feige also talked about Ant-Man. He said what we all already know – Marvel had to change Ant-Man’s origin somewhat thanks to the story that Edgar Wright wanted to tell. That is clear since Ant-Man was a founding member of The Avengers, along with The Wasp. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Hawkeye and Black Widow took their place as founders of the team.
The second thing Feige spoke of was how the story between Hank Pym and Scott Lang was the one that Wright always wanted to tell. I am perfectly fine with that. Edgar Wright is a genius and can do no wrong, so let him do what he wants.
