Amazing Spider-Man 2 Post-Credit Spoilers

It looks like there will be an Amazing Spider-Man 2 post-credit teaser, which should come as no shock to anyone who watches Marvel movies. However, what will come as a shock is the teaser isn’t for anything in the Spider-Man, or Sony, universe. The post-credit teaser is for X-Men: Days of Future Past.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is not a Sony Marvel movie, it is not connected in any way to Spider-Man, and there will not be a meeting between the characters in any future movie. It is only there to advertise for the upcoming Fox Marvel movie, using the Amazing Spider-Man 2 post-credit teaser spot to do so.

But, why would Sony help promote a rival studio movie that it has nothing to gain anything from?

Fox Media

Variety reports that the reason there is an X-Men: Days of Future Past teaser during the Amazing Spider-Man 2 post-credits is because of a deal that was worked out behind the scenes between the two studios. The teaser, which is basically like having a mini-trailer AFTER the movie, was put there because of director Marc Webb.

See, when Marc Webb made (500) Days of Summer, the distribution by Fox Searchlight required him to make another film for Fox. After Amazing Spider-Man hit theaters, it looked like Fox was going to block Webb from returning for the sequels because he still owed them a movie, while Sony wanted to get to work on Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Fox finally relented and let Marc Webb return for the Spider-Man movies, but there was one condition. Fox wanted Sony to promote X-Men: Days of Future Past for them – for free. This was done with this Amazing Spider-Man 2 post-credit teaser.

So, if anyone wants to know what happens in the Amazing Spider-Man 2 post-credit teaser, that is described below … if you want to be unspoiled, leave now.

The scene featured sees Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique, Lucas Till’s Havok and Evan Jonigkeit’s Toad taking on William Stryker (Josh Helman) and his military men. Without wishing to spoil anything, let’s just say that Mystique once again demonstrates her formidable fighting skills in the brief segment.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theaters on May 2.
