It doesn’t feel like it is the Razzie Awards unless Adam Sandler takes home an award or two. However, the 2014 Razzie Awards proves that there are sometimes worse things than an Adam Sandler movie.
Movie 43 beat out Grown Ups 2 as well as Will Smith’s After Earth, The Lone Ranger and A Madea Christmas for the Worst Picture of the Year. Throughout the year, most people have been referring to Grown Ups 2 as the worst film of 2013, but it didn’t win one Razzie Award this year.
Even Adam Sandler was spared another Worst Actor award when the Razzies gave that award to Jaden Smith, the son of Will Smith and star of After Earth. His dad Will also got in on the actor with the Worst Supporting Actor award. To add insult to injury, the duo also won the award for Worst Screen Combo, beating out the entire casts of both Grown Ups 2 and Movie 43.
For the two worst Actress Awards, Tyler Perry won for A Madea Christmas, a clever joke since he played a woman, and Kim Kardashian won for Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor.
Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel went to The Lone Ranger, which happens to be up for two Oscars as well (Best Makeup / Best Visual Effects).
Finally, the Razzie Awards for Worst Director went to “the 13 people” who directed Movie 43, while the Worst Screenplay award went to the 20 people who wrote Movie 43.
As much as I despise Adam Sandler and his movies I actually think Jaden Smith deserved the award. I liked him in Pursuit of Happyness and Karate Kid but he was just awful this time.
