‘Gotham’ Casting Knocking it Out of the Park

Gotham TV

The Gotham TV show that will serve as a prequel to the Batman mythos has been casting up a storm, and damn if they aren’t just knocking it out of the park. It all started last week when they cast Southland’s Ben McKenzie as Detective James Gordon and now they added another fantastic actor in Sons of Anarchy’s Donal Logue as Detective Harvey Bullock.

In between, they cast Robin Lord Taylor as The Penguin, Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth, Zabryna Guevara as Captain Essen, and Erin Richards as Gordon’s fiancée, Barbara. I especially love the Sean Pertwee casting.

Now, a lot of whether Gotham will be awesome or suck will depend on what genre they go for. I mean, this is Gotham City and it will get worse before Batman arrives years down the road. This needs to be a Noir styled TV show. This needs to be dirty and rough, more Sin City than Smallville, so the atmosphere will play almost more of a role than anything.

However, they are off to a great start. I don’t know if McKenzie is what I would have pictured as a young James Gordon, but he is a great actor. However, I love Donal Logue, and I think he will be great as Det. Bullock.

What are your thoughts? Do the casting choices make you any less skeptical of the Gotham TV show? Will you be giving it a chance when it hits Fox? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
