Fantastic Four Screen Testing Underway

Fantastic Four Sequel

The Fantastic Four reboot is one step closer to officially starting production after going through a series of screen tests earlier this week.   So far Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch is the only actor that has been confirmed but the others roles should be filled very soon.

Miles Teller (Spectacular Now) tested for the part of Mr. Fantastic while Kate Mara (House of Cards) and Emmy Rossum (Shameless) read for The Invisible Woman.  Auditioning for the part of Ben Grimm was the relatively unknown Christian Cooke.

Kit Harrington (Game of Thrones) had been previously expected to read for Mr. Fantastic but has instead decided to sign on for the period drama Testament of Youth.  Meanwhile actresses Saoirse Ronan (Hanna) and Elizabeth Olsen (Avengers: Age of Ultron) opted not to read for the Invisible Woman due to scheduling conflicts and/or waning interest.

I can’t say I entirely agree with the decision to cast younger actors for The Fantastic Four, but if they’re going ahead with this approach, I’m all for Miles Teller taking on the role of Reed Richards.  He’s a very talented actor who gave an award worthy dramatic performance in The Spectacular Now and has proven he has some comedic chops just by making 21 and Over relatively tolerable.

As for Invisible Woman and Ben Grimm I haven’t seen enough performances of any of the actors involved to give a firm opinion one way or the other.  As a matter of fact, Cooke appears to be so unknown, some of the reports I’ve read have misspelled his name (though as I was reading his IMDB page I found out he’s done a couple of episodes of Doctor Who and therefore already gives him plenty of geek cred in my book).

To the surprise of absolutely no one, it has been said that Doctor Doom will be the villain in this picture.  According to The Hollywood Reporter the studio will likely go for a bigger name for this role and are even considering changing Doctor Doom’s gender for the film (which is a discussion for a whole different article).

Is the studio making the right call casting younger actors for Fantastic Four?  Who do you think should be filling the roles?  Give us your thoughts in the comment section below
