Bryan Singer Writing X-Men: Apocalypse

X-Men: Apocalypse

Bryan Singer announced a few weeks back that the next X-Men movie, X-Men: Apocalypse, will come out in 2016. That was a huge announcement, but Singer revealed in a recent interview that he is not set to direct it yet.

I’m co-writing the story and I’m producing it. I’m negotiating to direct. We’re in the process. We’re trying to figure it out, schedules. My desire would be to direct it.

Seeing how great Singer’s X-Men movies were, especially the highly re-watchable X2, I am holding out hope that the negotiations go well. Of course, my mind could be changed if X-Men: Days of Future Past does not turn out well, but I have very little doubt that it won’t be a return to form for the franchise.

Of course, with X-Men: Days of Future Past being a time travel movie, Singer can readjust things in the X-Men universe (maybe bringing Scott and Jean back to life) and set up the First Class cast to take over the mantle from the older, more expensive cast of the original trilogy.

Singer said that he is not sure if there will be an X-Men: Days of Future Past post-credit teaser to set up X-Men: Apocalypse yet. He did mention what the movie will be about.

It will also address historical mutant-cy, meaning the deep past, mutant origins and things like that. It’s something that’s always intrigued me when we think about our Gods and our history and miracles and powers.

The storyline that goes along with the title of the movie follows the mutant Apocalypse, a villain who was ranked as the third greatest X-Men villain of all-time. He was also one of the first mutants to exist, so Singer’s explanation makes it sound like he will indeed be the villain in the movie.

It is also interesting to note that the “alternate reality” that X-Men: Days of Future Past creates in the comics created the character of Cable – who was Scott and Jean’s son. He appeared in the X-Men universe when he traveled to the present day X-Men universe in search of destroying the villain Apocalypse, which could explain how the two movies could tie together.

Are you excited about Apocalypse coming to the X-Men movie universe. Will you be excited even if Bryan Singer doesn’t direct X-Men: Apocalypse? Let’s talk X-Men in the comment section.
