Avengers: Age of Ultron Casting: Jarvis and War Machine Coming

Age of Ultron casting

There was a couple of pieces of Avengers: Age of Ultron casting news that hit last week. The first was about Don Cheadle’s War Machine and the second was about the character of Jarvis. It is that second bit of casting news that has me – as an old Marvel Comics fan – kind of excited.

Now, I am a fan of Paul Bettany’s J.A.R.V.I.S., an A.I. companion for Iron Man. He is funny and a great “character” in the Marvel movie universe and is a perfect counterbalance to the arrogance of Tony Stark. It was also a nice wink to people who grew up with Jarvis as the beloved butler of The Avengers.

Now, Avengers: Age of Ultron will have the original Jarvis, the butler, back in the lineup. It is Simon McBurney who has been cast to play the human Jarvis, a character that really brings out the humanity in a mansion full of superheroes.

McBurney is a British actor who has appeared in everything from Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Harry Potter to The Last King of Scotland and The Golden Compass. He is a little young, but I think he will fit the role find and I’m excited to see an old favorite character joining the franchise.

As for the Don Cheadle rumors, the word is that War Machine will play a large role in the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron movie. This is a little concerning. The first Avengers movie seemed to give most characters a perfect amount of attention, but there were still thoughts that Hawkeye was shorted. With the new movie, word  comes that both Hawkeye and Hulk will get a lot of screen time, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are newcomers, and there is still Thor, Captain America and Iron Man to deal with. Plus, there is Black Widow.

That gives us the six Avengers, War Machine and the two new characters, which is a whole lot of heroes and a two hour movie can’t do that many characters justice. I know Ultron is almost unbeatable, but with this many characters, there will be a lot that won’t get the beats some fans want.

What are your thoughts about the growing Avengers: Age of Ultron casting list? Are there too many heroes? Are you excited to see Jarvis show up? Let us know in the comments below.
