A sequel to the Daniel Radcliffe horror film Woman in Black has been in the works for a while and now things appear to be official. It has been recently announced that production has officially begun on the horror sequel now titled Woman in Black: Angel of Death. They also announced the Woman in Black sequel is due to released in the on February 13th, 2015 (Friday the 13th, how convenient).
It’s no great mystery why we are getting a Woman in Black sequel. Against a $15 million budget, it grossed over $120 million worldwide and has been one of the most financially successful British films in history.
Whether Woman in Black has what it takes to become a major horror franchise however, remains to be seen. I was always inclined to think the reason the first one became such a success was because of the left-over star power Radcliffe had from his Harry Potter days. Then again, horror movies have been in a bit of a renaissance period lately with The Purge, The Conjuring and Insidious Chapter 2 becoming surprise box office hits so it’s not out of the realm of possibility that Woman in Black: Angel of Death can succeed on it’s own.
