New Saw Sequel Wants to Punish More Sinners

Despite the last movie being called “The Final Chapter,” it looks like another Saw sequel is rolling down the pipeline, causing Saw 3D to join the likes of Freddy’s Dead: The Final Chapter and Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday as movies that were “liar liar pants on fire.”

Seriously, even The Never Ending Story had a better franchise name.

I know a lot of people got tired of the Saw franchise, but I really liked it. The first movie was pretty dang good, and honestly I liked the rest of them too on different levels. Sure, some of them were nowhere near as good as they could have been, but I thought the story was damn near ingenuous. And I do not believe the Saw franchise is “torture porn.”

Of course, I had the “luxury” of watching the first five movies back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back in one freaking day so I could catch Saw VI at a midnight showing. While haters will believe that torture to watch six Saw movies in one day, it actually made me appreciate them even more. Since all the movies tie together to tell one complete story, I caught a lot more than my friends who had watched them when released and let a year go by, forgetting a lot of stuff when they caught the next one.

It was really the best way to watch the movies.

Now, as for this Saw sequel, I can’t get too excited. Honestly, the original franchise – all seven movies – tied together and wrapped up right where they all began. It was a nice ending to the story itself. I really don’t see anything else they can do with the story, so my guess right now is that they are just doing this for money – which is why most sequels are made. At least the first seven told a complete story.

The problem here is that Lionsgate is saying there is nothing official yet, and no direction yet, but they want more money so they want another Saw sequel. It’s a horrible reason to make a movie, but we’ll have to wait and see who they bring on to make it.
