When wondering if there is an endgame of sorts for The Avengers in the Marvel movie universe, the comments from Kevin Feige makes it sound like there might be. That end should be in the form of Thanos.
Now, this isn’t the end of Marvel movies, but it might be the end of the current faction of The Avengers and I predict it will come in Avengers 3. If you read the Thor: The Dark World post-credit spoiler article from earlier today, you would have seen part of the continuation of that endgame.
Of course, at the end of The Avengers, we saw a smiling Thanos and realized he was responsible for the attack on earth in that movie. Now, it looks like everything is building towards Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet.
When asked if Thaons was like the end boss in a video game, Feige said
“We never thought of it exactly like that, but I’d say that’s a fair analogy. You look at some classic story lines in the comics and they tease out characters like that — big bads like that — for sometimes years”
With Avengers: Age of Ultron coming out in 2015, the next Avengers movie will hit in 2018 at the end of Phase 3. Could that be when Thanos appears? That would make it six years from the moment movie audiences first viewed Thanos. I think this is where things are leading, and then after Thanos, the Marvel universe can move on with other heroes and stories.
