It looks like the Ant-Man casting decisions are ironing themselves out. Last week, we told you that both Joseph Gordon Levitt and Paul Rudd were on the shortlist for Hank Pym and it looks like Rudd will win the role. That makes the casting of Janet Van Dyne a no-brainer as well with Rashida Jones the front runner for that role.
Rudd and Jones co-starred as an engaged couple in I Love You Man back in 2009.
We also mentioned earlier this week that Ant-Man was going to be a heist film, and that makes me question whether Hank Pym will actually be the man who comes out of the movie as Ant-Man.
Scott Lang is also rumored to be a part of the story, and as comic fans know, Lang broke into Pym’s lab and stole the Pym Particles that turns him into Ant-Man in order to save his daughter, who was kidnapped. Hank Pym sees that Lang is a good person inside and lets him keep the Ant-Man persona since he really was finished with that part of his life anyway.
As for Janet Van Dyne, comic fans also know that she is The Wasp, but it looks like she won’t be The Wasp yet, but could be in the future.
“Janet will be a love interest and a major supporting character, we would see multiple references to her future as The Wasp throughout the films,” a source told Superhero Movie News.
I would guess, at this point, she is just Janet, but I would also hope that they sign Jones (or whoever signs on to play her in the Ant-Man casting) to a long-term deal so The Wasp can appear in an Avengers movie down the line.
