Ahh…every time I think I’m out, they pull me back in.
This Renegade Reporter is talking, of course, of all attempts to exit the superhero movie casting hype bestowed upon us (yes, I am sort of a part of the machine, but since it’s mostly just a hobby for me, it’s different!). Anywho, seems like there are few finalists to play Hank Pym — aka Ant-Man — in Edgar Wright’s big screen adaptation of the Marvel property.
And yes, both choices are indeed humdingers…looks like right now the role is up for grabs between Paul Rudd (Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (3rd Rock from the Sun). Personally, I think that Rudd showed enough uumph as a crazy stalker-turned Thorn cult serial killer-killer in H6:TCoMM to win the role.
C’mon, I’m just kidding. We all know that Levitt has been blowing up big screens everywhere with roles in Christopher Nolan’s Inception and The Dark Knight Returns as well as REALLY burning down the house with his writing-directing duties on Don Jon. And Rudd has been bankable for years in many a romantic dramedy — and serious drama — role.
Very interesting news on a very interesting property. Will Rudd win out as a seasoned veteran (to ask this another way: do Marvel and Wright want an older actor?) or do you think Levitt, the up and comer, will snag the role (see previous parenthetical statement and reverse it here)?
Marvel has also been vocal about the fact that other actors may be invited to the pismire party. But it certainly looks like Rudd and Levitt are under heavy consideration. What would your choice be? Let us know in the comments below!
