David Tennant To Play Lead in American Remake of ‘Broadchurch’

David Tennant (best known for his portrayal as the tenth Doctor Who) has been cast to reprise his role in Fox’s American remake of the critically acclaimed ITV series Broadchurch.  Tennant will be playing an American detective who is leading the investigation of a shocking small town murder that puts the entire town under question.  While I admit I haven’t watched the original series yet, it sounds like Tennant will essentially be playing the same character for the remake.

Tennant has always been my favorite Doctor Who so I’m always happy to check out anything he’s in (his presence alone made the Fright Night remake awesome for me to watch).  I don’t  know why I haven’t gotten around to seeing the original Broadchurch yet, but after this announcement it is definitely on my to-do list.

Of course this casting has me a little confused for a couple of reasons.  Since the original series has already been renewed for a second season, does that mean Tennant will have to drop out of that series in order to make time for remake (I don’t really see him doing both).  Or do will they start over with a mostly new cast and characters like in American Horror Story.  If that’s the case I would have a hard time imagining the original would really be quite the same without him (though admittedly my opinion of Tennant is pretty biased).

Are you fan of the original Broadchurch?  Are you excited for the American version?  Please give us your thoughts in the comments section below.
