Benicio Del Toro Reminds America About Guardians Of The Galaxy (Via French Magazine)

Guardians of the Galaxy

Turns out there’s at least one person out there more excited than me about Guardians Of The Galaxy. It’s someone important too! In a discussion with French magazine, Les Inrockuptibles, Benicio Del Toro sounded stoked about his role in James Gunn’s forthcoming superhero movie.

“When someone calls you and says ‘I need you in my movie’, it’s exciting. I like comic-book movies, and it’s totally new for me. My character is The Collector, I’ve never heard of him so I just started some researches about him… A blockbuster can be really tiring to do, but it’s fun to shoot one occasionally.”

He’s doing research! No doubt working hard to avoid being outshined by his fellow cast members, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel.

Guardians Of The Galaxy has been generating a lot of buzz since its strong showing at San Diego Comic-Con. Judging by this quote and other comments from the set the geeks aren’t the only ones expecting big things from Starlord and his motley crew. Gunn’s work has always done a great job of combining comedy with thematic resonance and a great sense of atmosphere. This picture looks to be no different.

I’m not sure how it will fit into the greater Marvel narrative, but that will become clear with time. In the meantime, we can appreciate James Gunn’s great tweets about how things are going on set. Apparently they’re going terrifyingly well.

Are you guys ready for Guardians of the Galaxy? Is it too obscure a property? Isn’t James Gunn the best? I wonder what scene he’s talking about? Let’s argue about this a year in advance!
