Brand New Friday The 13th Series In The Works

Friday the 13th TV series

Sean Cunningham, the director of the original film, and producer for many of the sequels spoke with Fearnet (via IGN) recently about a brand new series, Friday The 13th: Crystal Lake Chronicles.

Cunningham said it would be a “sort of Smallville,” and what exactly that would entail I don’t know, but I imagine whatever it is it’ll hopefully be better than the original Friday The 13th TV series.

In the late ’80s, early ’90s, along with Freddy’s Nightmares, we got the Friday The 13th TV Series. Of course, there wasn’t anything resembling the series to be found.

It’s about an antique store with haunted items that have to be sold, and the owners have to go out and get them back. The rumor was the final item was to be Jason’s mask.

Leave it to Shelly to buy a haunted hockey mask. Either way, it was pretty lame stuff.

“We’ve been on-again-off-again with that for years and there are a bunch of great stories to be told, but I think the way that it’s finally going to get delivered is not through a conventional television network but through the Internet,” Cunningham said.

“I can’t tell you who the delivery people will be, but it won’t be the traditional route. There’s also the possibility of webisodes, and I think we even have an idea for a terrific Friday the 13th video game.”

“It can’t be just Jason killing someone new every week,” he laughs. “That’s not going to make it.”

What? I beg to differ, good sir! There’s a little show called Dexter that seems to be doing alright.

Now, just imagine Dexter with the mask.

And really, really hating pre-marital sex.
