Channing Tatum Is Willing to Play Gambit in an X-Men Movie

Channing Tatum as Gambit

It seems lately that the world has been taken over by Tatum fever. Here is a guy who went from playing sappy teeny bopper romances to joining the Apatow comedy league almost overnight. Even though White House Down wasn’t a monumental success, the guy’s career is definitely on another level nowadays.

So, would Channing ever consider playing a superhero? Well,  he’s already playing Lego Superman in Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s The Lego Movie. However, in a new interview, the star expresses interest on taking on another hero.

While at a press event for White House Down, Tatum discussed working with Jamie Foxx in a film like The Amazing SpiderMan 2, or possibly becoming a member of The Sinister Six. Tatum said in response,  ““Hey man, I would love do anything with Jamie, one; two, I haven’t really had many superhero movies.”

He then elaborated on what hero he would like to play more than becoming a villain.

I would like to play Gambit. Gambit’s my favorite. I’m from New Orleans, around that area. My dad’s from New Orleans, and I like to do a Cajun accent. I could do it for real. No knock on Taylor Kitsch, though, ’cause I actually like his Gambit, but I’ve always lived around Cajun people. […] Gambit was always like the woman-loving, cigarette-smoking, drinking [guy]. He was the punk rock of all the superheroes. He’s a thief. He kind of rode the line.

I definitely didn’t have anything against Taylor Kitsch’s execution of Gambit. The movie was terrible for sure but I’m not going to say that it was Kitsch’s fault. The studios on the other hand is an entirely different subject. Now, can Channing pull off Gambit? It’s hard to say because I haven’t seen his cajun accent or with the hair that is needed for the character. If he has a passion for the character though, maybe it’s worth giving the Tatum a chance.
