Benedict Cumberbatch Quits ‘Crimson Peak’

Benedict Cumberbatch quits

Benedict Cumberbatch has officially dropped out of Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak.

Cumberbatch, the star of BBC’s Sherlock and this summer’s Star Trek Into Darkness, had been set to star alongside Charlie Hunnam, Jessica Chastain, and Mia Wasikowska, in del Toro’s upcoming horror film, but for reasons unknown, it seems that he no longer will be taking part in the film. This will come as sure disappointment to fans who were looking forward to seeing the respected actor pair up with a visionary director like del Toro.

This is the second departure for Crimson Peak in recent weeks. Originally Emma Stone had been attached to the project, but she was forced to drop out and was replaced by Wasikowska not long after. Although Crimson Peak has been building a great amount of steam in recent weeks, another high-profile departure like this could be a big problem for the production.

I’m particularly disappointed about this news. Cumberbatch is one of the finest actors of our time, and it’s a shame that we won’t be getting to see him team with del Toro or the rest of the talented actors on the cast like Hunnam and Chastain. I’ve been following and reporting the story since the news first broke months ago, and it was easily one of the projects that I was most anticipating in the coming years. It’s a shame that it won’t be happening.

What do you think about Cumberbatch’s departure? Are you disappointed that he’s left the project? Why don’t you just tell us what you think in the comments below?
