Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige said that they are finished announcing new movies until 2014. However, his most recent comments make it sound like they know just about every future Marvel movies release they will make between now and the year 2021. That means that they possibly have their road map planned out for the next seven years, which will put us up to Phase 5.
Right now, the schedule for future Marvel movies looks like this:
- 2014: Captain America and Guardians of the Galaxy
- 2015: The Avengers 2 and Ant-Man
- 2016: Doctor Strange (rumored)
So, if what Feige is saying is accurate, they have plans for at least nine more movies after Doctor Strange. With Marvel making about five to six movies in each Phase, that means that the Phase 3 tent-pole will hit in around 2018 and the Phase 4 tent-pole in 2021, which means they might have an idea of where they are heading for the next two major arcs.
Here are Kevin Feige’s exact words:
“I could arguably say what we’re planning for the year 2021,” Feige said. “Will that happen? I don’t know. But what we planned for 2015 in 2006 is happening. Five years ago, looking at our plan, we knew that if Avengers was going to work, the movies had to stand alone. Now we have to prove to the studio that we’re more than just these five characters, these five franchises.”
Other than Doctor Strange, names like Black Panther and The Inhumans have been mentioned, as has names like Luke Cage and Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers, not Mar-Vell). Plus, they want to make Doctor Strange into the next Iron Man, which means sequels.
