Several months back, it was reported that Guillermo del Toro had discussions with Marvel about making a Hulk television series. Sadly, the latest report out of Comic-Con 2013 suggest it’s not a priority for the studio at this time.
In January, del Toro expressed concerns about the prospect of it not happening as well. Here is what he had to say:
“I met with Jeph Loeb after ‘Avengers,’ but after that meeting, there’s been complete radio silence on the show. It’s very frustrating for me and for the fans that we don’t know…I haven’t heard anything in months about the show, but obviously ‘Avengers’ is a game-changer for Marvel. It’s their property, and if I don’t make it, at least I’ll watch it.”
Well, now Jeph Loeb has shared the current status of the show, and it’s not promising. During a live stream via MTV, Loeb revealed that the television project is not dead, but in fact “on pause,” explaining that “the world of TV is all about timing.”
As cool as it would be to see a del Toro production of Hulk, this news doesn’t surprise me one bit. I don’t think Marvel expected Mark Ruffalo’s take on the character to be so widely received and embraced. Now, they have a solid investment for another film. Why do a television show when we can make another Hulk movie?
