You’ve all seen Man of Steel, right? Pretty good flick. Sure, the first half of the film is, from a character development standpoint, leaps and bounds better than the second half. But the second half of the movie was pretty awesome too, what with Superman actually using his powers to fight the antagonist and stuff. Super punches, people!!!
So, what comes next? (“Please God//Buddha/Allah/scary spider he saw in the corner who seems to manifest godlike properties,” he said to himself. “Please, no more real estate schemes!”)
No, it’s not that bad.
Zack Snyder has been making comments since, like, forever (read: two weeks ago, when the reincarnation of Supes opened big) that Man of Steel could be a great segue to the Justice League universe, but the director obviously has his sights set on a sequel too.
Snyder has preached patience to the fans, saying: “[People have been like ‘there’s no kryptonite in the movie’ and ‘there’s no Lex Luthor in the movie’, and by no means am I saying those things don’t exist, I’m just saying he didn’t run into them here [this time].”
All of us geeks have seen the movie, and recognized the blatant references to Lex Luthor. Eagle-eyed
The question remains: in what capacity? Our brethren at Screen Rant have some good ideas; namely that Lex will come to us in cinematic format as a rebuilder of Metropolis, a force for good (with shades of delicious evil). And then he would presumably turn all that goodwill on Superman’s super ear by claiming the world isn’t ready for Superman. It’s a solid argument that was explored in Man of Steel. How can you trust a being that could, in essence, split the world in two? Then it’s only a matter of time before Lex learns of or engineers the only thing that would make Superman a vulnerable entity (outside of a complete blockage of the sun’s rays via a Zod-driven Earth-eating machine): Kryptonite.
Quite frankly, this Renegade Reporter salivates at the possibilities. For all its faults, I loved Man of Steel. The only question now is, who plays Lex Luthor in The Man of Tomorrow? And how does he get those lovely toys Kryptonite?
