Yesterday, Kevin Feige took to Twitter to engage the fans. Through the “official Iron Man Twitter account,” Feige answered questions that fans had about the movie and to ask a few questions of his own, like which superhero the fans wanted to see in a movie next. There were two particularly interesting subjects that the fans asked concerning Iron Man 3 news.

One of the most common fan questions about Iron Man 3 was about the absence of S.H.I.E.L.D. or any of  the other superheroes, besides War Machine/Iron Patriot. Aside from a short post-credits video, none of Tony’s teammates in the Avengers make any kind of appearance in Iron Man 3. Many fans found it strange that an organization like S.H.I.E.L.D. wouldn’t get involved with some of the major events that happen in the film. Here’s how Feige answered that question

Another of the questions that fans asked was about the Extremis virus that appeared in Iron Man 3. The virus was the power source for all of the film’s villains, although it appeared as very differently than in its original comic book form. Instead of merging a person’s DNA with technology and providing a healing factor, the virus seemed to grant the host the powers of breathing fire and increasing heat through touch. One fan asked if Extremis will appear in a later Marvel story.

If Extremis does return in any future Marvel movies, it’s likely that the virus will be closely affiliated with Tony. Perhaps after he figures the virus out, he could upload it into his own system. As to Feige’s claims of the international peacekeeping organization being too busy to help out Tony, I’m very skeptical about that idea. They were present in every single one of the Phase 1 films in some form, which implies that the movie version of S.H.I.E.L.D. is just as big and powerful as the comics incarnation. They were able to work on the events occurring in both Iron Man 2 and Thor concurrently, after all. Until I see Captain America 2, I think that excuse doesn’t hold water.

What do you think of Feige’s answers to this pair of questions concerning the Iron Man 3 news? Are you satisfied by them? Why don’t you just tell us what you think in the comments below?
