February is not always the best month for new movies but in 2017 there were some great films that hit throughout the month. There were also some real stinkers.
While there were some surprises, including a horror movie that explored race relations in a very interesting way, there were also fan favorites, such as a new John Wick movie and another LEGO movie for kids and adults to enjoy. With that said, here is a look at the best movies for February 2017.
As always, when movies that were missed are seen, we will make the necessary changes to the ratings by adding those movies to the list.
Movies we have not yet seen: Rings, The Space Between Us, Fifty Shades Darker, A Cure For Wellness, Fist Fight, The Great Wall, Collide, Get Out
3. Rock Dog
When it comes to movies, there are tiers. The best of the movies come from Pixar, Disney, Aardman, and Laika. There is the second tier, with are mostly movies from DreamWorks and Illumination – although some of those can hit firs tier level. Then, there are smaller companies like Summit and underachievers like Sony who fall to average and poor levels. Rock Dog is in that lower level – better than something like Norm of the North and about level with something like Nut Job. Your kids will like it and it isn’t overly horrible for adults to sit through.
A lot of people seemed to love The LEGO Batman Movie but at the end of the day, it is too bloated and not anywhere near as funny and creative as other LEGO properties over the years. The voice cast is magnificent, the in-jokes are great, and the story is solid, but there are too many eye-rolling moments that fail to hit on the humor to make this a true animated classic. The LEGO Batman Movie is good. It isn’t great.
John Wick: Chapter 2 starts out where the first movie ended. John Wick killed the guy who killed his dog and then the kid’s dad and now he is finishing off the entire crime family. However, when he finishes, someone he owed comes and asks him to repay the favor. John Wick has no choice but when he is betrayed, he sets out to kill everyone again. It is not as good as the first movie when it comes to the tight action but the world building is amazing. This world was so naturally crafted that it should be the template for movies in the future. It’s still better than most action movies out there today.by
