The X-Men casting rumors will start to heat up now that fans know that Cyclops, Jean Grey and Storm will play roles in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse movie. Of course, as those who saw X-Men: Days of Future Past knows, this is really just an alternate timelines version of the characters.

For those who don’t read comics or follow sci-fi, this basically means that if something happens in time travel that changes the future, a new timeline is created. This means that, on one timeline, Jean Grey still killed Cyclops and was killed by Wolverine in X-Men: The Last Stand, but thanks to Days of Future Past, we now get to follow a new timeline where they are still alive.

Anyway, there are a ton of choices to play the characters who would grow up to be James Marsden, Famke Janssen and Halle Berry. Names like Jamie Blackley (If I Stay) and Ty Sheridan (Mud) have been rumored for Cyclops while Saoirse Ronan (Hanna) and Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones) are interesting options for Jean Grey.

However, a new name has come up in the X-Men casting rumors for the role of Cyclops and that is Taron Egerton. Latino-Review claims that he tested for the role of Cyclops, and he recently made some interesting comments while promoting his next movie, Kingsman: The Secret Service, which itself is based on a comic book by Mark Millar.

“I really can’t comment on the Cyclops thing. I’m not really sure what’s going on there or where that [rumor] came from, but my friend Nicholas Hoult plays Beast and he says that’s very fun,” Egerton said. “Of course, everyone would like to play a superhero, but this is by no means me saying I would like to go play Cyclops. So, I don’t know.”

So, what does this mean? Well, he said he can’t talk about it. That could either mean that he isn’t supposed to talk about it or that he really doesn’t know. Of course, his wording does make it sound like he isn’t really excited to play Cyclops. Anyway, it is interesting talk while the X-Men casting process rolls along.
