The news that Josh Brolin was a late cast addition as Thanos in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy movie made it sound like he was coming in to voice over the villain. It turns out that isn’t the fact. In an interview with Collider, Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige said that Josh Brolin came in and did performance capture work as well.

This is awesome news and proves that Marvel cares a lot more about making the characters look real than some other franchises. Feige said that Brolin was an easy sell and was happy to join the Marvel team. He came in, shot his performance capture work, recorded his dialogue and will now appear in both Guardians of the Galaxy and the more films in the Marvel Avengers series.

Feige said that Brolin was on their want-list, and once they realized they could get him, they cleared it with James Gunn and Joss Whedon, who both loved it. To see a star the caliber of Josh Brolin play a character where you will never see Brolin’s face speaks loudly about how big Marvel has gotten. With Vin Diesel playing a giant tree named Groot and Bradley Cooper playing a gun toting alien that looks like a Raccoon named Rocket, Guardians of the Galaxy has racked up an all-star cast whose faces you will never see.

Thanos is a world conqueror in the Marvel Universe and was responsible for the alien invasion in the first Avengers movie as well as everything that happens in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy. Brolin will also be at Comic-Con 2014 this week, so expect some more news to leak about his upcoming adventures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
