The tremendously hilarious and gory short Fist of Jesus was first introduced to me at a screening of horror films on Halloween night in the Gothic area of Barcelona in 2012 (thanks Kirsty). It was clearly the crowd favourite, winning best picture. At that time their Facebook page had about 100 people on it, now, with word of mouth, and the fact that it is quality grind house, they are upwards of 17K- Thumbs up, to them.

Fist of Jesus, the short showed Jesus learning to master his powers of bringing people back from the dead; there are some hiccups. Much like the end of Buckaroo Banzai, in the credits at the end of the short they teased that “Jesus would be back for Once upon a Time in Jerusalem”. Well, the time has come for that to happen- and they need all the fans, and soon to be fans to pitch in.

Their Kickstarted Campaign opened today! The plan is to fund the film in pieces. The initial amount they are asking for would let them film the first part of the story, about 30 minutes, and stretch goals would help create the other parts- and in turn, if enough people donate they would have enough for a whole film. Here’s the story, from their site:

After wiping out an entire village whilst trying to raise Lazarus, Jesus decides to go to the Oracle of Delphos for advice. The witches reveal to him that he must go on a perilous journey. He recruits twelve ruthless mercenaries, and sets off, ready to burn his name into the pages of history.

Once upon a Time in Jerusalem

Fist of Jesus (2012)

The filmmakers said, “Our dream is to make a comedy that is a cross between the New Testament and “Mad Max”, with the humor of “The Life of Brian” and the style of Peter Jackson’s early works like “Bad Taste” or “Braindead”.”

If you haven’t seen Fist of Jesus, check out the short above. If you have, then you already know of the fun and charm that is in store for us if they can make this film. I for one have my eyes on that Jesus action figure in the style of Masters of the Universe. Can’t wait.
