Hugh Jackman has been Wolverine for almost fifteen years but his time as the comic book may soon be coming to an end.  In a recent IGN interview on the set of X-Men: Days of Future Past he believes that an eventual recasting for Wolverine is “inevitable.”

The sad truth is that he’s probably right.  Even before this interview it’s been hinted that this upcoming film may be the last time Jackman plays the character.  Even without that cloud hanging over, there is going to be a certain point where it’s just not practical to keep bringing him back.  It’s only a matter of time before his price tag becomes a little too rich for Fox’s blood and eventually he’s just going to be too old for the role (especially considering he’s playing a character that never ages).

In the long run though I think it would be for the best.  Harrison Ford held on to his role of Indiana Jones too long and the quality of the brand has suffered as a result.  James Bond and Doctor Who on the other hand have been able to stand the test the time because the producers haven’t been afraid to cast new actors and have therefore been able to keep the characters fresh.

Do you think it’s a good idea to recast Wolverine?  Tell us what you think in the comment section below.
