I’ll be completely honest with you – I had few hopes that the Maleficent movie would be any good. I don’t know if it was my doubts that Angelina Jolie could pull this off or just the fact that it seemed like a rip-off of Wicked – seeing things from the evil witch’s point of view, I just didn’t care. I still don’t know if it will be any good, but damn if that new Maleficent trailer didn’t look pretty good.

Of course, Maleficent was the evil witch in Sleeping Beauty and cast the spell on an infant Princess Aurora that caused her to fall asleep when she grew up, with only love’s true kiss the key to wake her up. In the new movie, Angelina Jolie plays Maleficent while Elle Fanning (Super 8) plays Princess Aurora. Also in the movie is Sharlto Copley playing, I assume, some crazed character since that is how he is type cast now.

I think what impressed me most about this is that Angelina Jolie actually looks like she has nailed the character of Maleficent. The movie might still suck, but check out the Maleficent trailer and see what you think.

Synopsis:

From Disney comes “Maleficent”—the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty.” A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal—an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom—and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.
