There have been casting rumors for Star Wars Episode VII going on for months now but this one seems to have a little more truth to it.  It has been reported by The Wrap that Jesse Plemons (Friday Night Lights, Breaking Bad) is now in serious contention for one of the films lead roles.  According to their sources his audition tape was very well received and he is scheduled to meet with director J.J. Abrams next week.

While there’s been no word about the role he may be up for, some people (including The Wrap) have already been quick to point out his resemblance to Mark Hamill, so he may up playing Luke Skywalker’s son.

Right now it’s hard for me to say whether or not he would be well suited to play the son of a Jedi.  I believe Plemons to be a good actor but right now it’s still a mystery what kind of direction the character will end up going (since this is a J.J. Abrams movie I’ll be surprised if we find out before the release date).  Normally I would say it would be too early to speculate but this rumor just feels a little more concrete than the ones we’ve gotten so far.

Do you think Plemons would be a good choice to play a Skywalker in Star Wars Episode VII?  Give us your thoughts in the comment section below.
