Despite a number of great releases over the Christmas weekend, none of them were able to beat out the warriors of Middle Earth and the snow queen the Christmas weekend box office rankings. While The Wolf of Wall Street, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, 47 Ronin and Grudge Match all debuted this weekend, the best any of them hit was fifth and Grudge Match opened at a low 11th.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug held on to the top spot in the weekend box office for the third consecutive weekend with $29.85 million while Disney’s Frozen moved up into second place with $28.84 million, as it proved to be a perfect Christmas family movie. Anchorman 2 dropped one spot to third with $20.15 million.

Of the new movies, The Wolf of Wall Street finished best at fifth, while The Secret Life of Walter Mitty opened in seventh and 47 Ronin debuted in ninth.
