Denzel Washington Rumored for Green Lantern

The Green Lantern

The Batman vs. Superman rumors just keep on coming.  The latest one to make the rounds is new Denzel Washington Green Lantern casting rumors, bringing John Stewart to the DC movie world.

While Hal Jordan is certainly the best known Green Lantern, John Stewart has certainly gained a following of his own thanks in no small part to the Justice League animated series, and in a way, this actually makes some sense.  Thanks to the abomination that is the Green Lantern movie, many non-comic fans have soured a bit on Hal Jordan and what better way to start over with Green Lantern than by using a different character.  If they indeed decide to go with John Stewart, then Denzel would actually make a pretty solid choice for the part and it wouldn’t exactly be the first time he’s been in an action movie either.

However, I feel this is a perfect time to make a Green Lantern suggestion of my own.  Since this rumor indicates that the producers are being fairly flexible with the character’s age (Denzel is pushing 60 after all) I know feel no guilt with this proposal.  I think they should stick with Hal Jordan and cast Nathan Fillion.  It’s the kind of role that he was not only born to play, but already has plenty of experience with.

Fillion has already voiced him in the DC Animated movies Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, Justice League: Doom, and most recently The Flashpoint Paradox and nailed it every time.  The only reason I haven’t been more vocal about this so far was that I figured, at age 42, he was probably a little too old for what Warner Bros. is looking for but since the “Denzel Washington Green Lantern” rumor is now going to circulate, as far as I’m concerned now, all bets are off.

Do you think Green Lantern should be in Batman vs. Superman?  Should they use Hal Jordan or John Stewart?  Who would you want to play them?  Give us your thoughts in the comment section below.

Denzel is great actor, but he’s too old to play Stewart, and most comic fans would rather have Hal Jordan. I know I would. John Stewart is, and always will be, a great backup character, but not one any real fans would want to be in the first Justice League. A sequel ? Maybe.

I agree completely. He is 59 years old and that is too old for John Stewart anyway. I would rather have Hal Jordan, but I am afraid Ryan Reynolds has ruined it for them.

I agree that denzel is a great actor, but 58 is too old for the role.

Actually most people would want John Stewart. For diversity sake plus Hal Jordan was destroyed by shitty Ryan Reynolds

Ryan Reynolds didn’t destroy GL. A shitty script ruined GL. Ryan played Hal perfectly. Personally I’d prefer Hal Jordan since he is a founding member f the JLA.

No way. Both the movie and his acting were horrid.

Agreed, RR did a great job and ruined nothing, although I love him as Deadpool better. With that said, I’d prefer John Stewart. I like the diversity and I think Washington would do a fine job. Stewart always seemed to me, an older gentleman.

John Stewart is actually the GL that is more familiar with people that only know the cartoons in the 2000s.

I think it really is an era thing. I read most in the 80s, so it is Hal for me. My friends who read in the 90s love Guy.

I think comic fans are more informed. I think they would be aware of Stewart, Gardner, Jordan, Rayner, and Baz.

Oh, I agree. I just think it depends on when they started reading on which one they liked the best

Idris Elba is the optimal choice for the role (he looks exactly like John Stewart plus he naturally has that wise, responsible vibe that a Green Lantern is supposed to have) but if this rumor is true, I’m not mad at all. Denzel is an exceptional actor and is in pretty decent shape for his age and he can also pull off the aforementioned wise, responsible vibe. With some physical training and a shaved head, Denzel would make a great Green Lantern. He already has the acting down pact. I still say Idris Elba over him though.

Did you just copy and paste yourself? Saw this exact same post on another site lol.

Edris is optimal but since he has ties to Marvel highly unlikely.
