The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (read the Renegade Review here) continued to reign supreme over the Thanksgiving weekend as the two movies combined for over $200 million if you consider the entire five days since Thanksgiving. It was the most two movies ever made, and while Catching Fire won the weekend, Frozen also became the second highest grossing movie ever to finish in second place in the weekend box office.
While those two movies crushed the competition, the rest of the Top 10 was way down from usual for the holiday weekend. There were four new movies in the Top 10 this week, and while some bigger releases were disappointing (Homeland and its $6.9 million), other smaller releases received some nice recognition, such as Philomena jumping in at 9th place. Here’s the complete weekend box office breakdown:
Weekend Box Office
|1||The Hunger Games: Catching Fire||$74.5M||$296.5M|
|3||Thor: The Dark World||$11.1||$186.7M|
|4||The Best Man Holiday||$8.4M||$63.4M|
|7||The Book Thief||$4.8M||$7.8M|
