Just in time for the release of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, which hits theaters on Dec. 13, a new Lord of the Rings inspired movie hits DVD on Dec. 3. The film is called Rise of the Fellowship and you can check out the trailer for it above.

Now, before you start thinking this is similar to the Asylum-styled rip-off movies that hit when blockbusters are about to come out, this one looks a little closer to the Rambo homage Son of Rambow.

Rise of the Fellowship is about a group of friends who are basically geeks who spend all their time playing online games, are bullied continuously and have no chance of being more than a loser. That all changes when he heads to Florida to take part in a Lord of the Rings gaming competition.

Here is the press release that was sent out with the trailer and the poster for the upcoming Rise of the Fellowship.

Before The Hobbit embarks on his second journey across Middle Earth, a different Fellowship will rise across Middle America.

Rise of the Fellowship,  winner of the GenCon 2012 film festival , is an exciting jaunt about a group of friends who embark on an epic journey to find a new world they have only heard of, encountering dangerous obstacles and threats around every corner.

The film, directed by Rob Newcomb, features an exciting troupe of fresh faces including Justin Moe, Jayme Bell, Emma Earnest,  and Cole Matson.

RISE OF THE FELLOWSHIP is released December 3 on DVD from Phase 4 Films.
