The world is cold and unjust. Stanley Kubrick never won best director. NASA isn’t trying to put people in space anymore. There still isn’t an Animal Man movie on the table. Even with the glorious dawn of basketball season on the way, the universe still finds a way to totally bum me out. This time it involves my personal hero, Snake Plissken. Who is Snake Plissken you ask? I punch you in the head. He’s the hero of John Carpenter’s classic Escape From New York. Plissken is one of the coolest characters I’ve ever seen, and one of Kurt Russel’s most excellent roles. What about Snake could possibly get me so down that not even NBA media day recaps can cheer me up? There was going to be a Snake Plissken videogame. Not only that, there was also going to be an anime!

Both of these things could be the most amazing things ever. I would gladly spend a day beating that game and watching every episode of that anime. Barring a total failure, I’d happily do it again the next day. In Escape From New York and Escape From LA, we get hints about Snake’s awesome past. The game and anime would have focused on that past and fleshed out the question that’s been on everyone’s mind for decades. What other amazing adventures has Snake Plissken embarked upon. We could have known! Now we will simply have to imagine it. Imagination is great, but not quite the same.

I know what you’re thinking. It probably would have just ended up being another silly remake and nothing good would come of it. WRONG. THE HATERS ARE WRONG. Carpenter, Russel and the producer of both Escape films Debra Hill were all involved. It was going to be a beautiful, perfect thing. There’re models of the case for the game as well as gameplay video. With regards to the anime, there is concept art floating around on the internet. It’s some great stuff. Do you think I’m too excited/frustrated/heartbroken about this? Would you expect good things from these other Snake incarnations? Let’s get dirty down below.
