Over the course of its three seasons, HBO’s Game of Thrones has built up a reputation as a show where characters die often and horribly. Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have perfectly captured the atmosphere that George R.R. Martin crafted throughout his books, and at this point know that almost no one is safe. The first season shocked viewers with a surprise twist right before the season finale, the second season continued the bloodshed, but the third season was the worst of them all with the horrific events of the Red Wedding. Renegade’s own Brandon Groppi filmed a reaction video to the infamous episode that perfectly captured the horror and anger that fans feel when their favorite characters have terrible things happen to them.

But as bad as the third season was, Kit Harrington says that the bloodshed isn’t over yet.

Harrington, who plays Jon Snow on the show, spoke to Access Hollywood at the Emmy’s and told them that the upcoming fourth season will have more deaths than ever before. His exact quote is embedded below.

“It doesn’t get any easier this season, it’s quite a high octane, action packed one…. More deaths this season than any other! I can’t tell you who dies. You’d think they’d tone the deaths down, but they don’t. They’ve realized that’s a successful option, so they’re just killing more people than we’ve ever killed.”

Part of the fun of reading the books before watching the show is knowing who’s going to die before the television fans do. That’s why I found Brandon’s reaction video hysterical. I read George R.R. Martin’s A Storm of Swords and A Feast for Crows early last year, and I’m currently reading A Dance With Dragons, so I know quite a few of the characters who will meet the Many-Faced God (Death) in the future. As to Harrington’s claim that there will be more deaths this season than any other, I think it might need a bit of a qualifier. There will probably be more important characters dying than ever before. Hundreds died across the third season, and I’m not sure we’ll see a bigger total body count in the next one, but the people who will die in the fourth season are some big characters. At least of eight of them, by my count. Don’t worry, I’ll stop before I say too much!

How does this new bit of news make you feel? Does this make you feel more worried for your favorite characters on the show? Who do you think will be the ones who bite the dust? Why don’t you just tell us what you think in the SPOILER-FREE comments below?
